Genesis

Friday 1:

Here it is, my genesis. I must admit that I just watched the movie Julie & Julia today and like probably everyone who sees that movie, I felt like I wanted to write a blog. This is not my first blog, but I like the fact that I can use this one for the sole purpose of looking back on a year of my life and seeing how the events of the year impacted my life.

So why Fridays? Well, I have the luxury of working four 10-hour work days a week leaving me with free Fridays. I have never enjoyed a consistent weekday of freedom before, so this whole experience is new to me. I began this job roughly three months ago, and it's always interesting to me how Fridays are almost a "Limbo" day for me. It's my day to take care of business, yet it is also a day to be celebrated as the weekend. Interestingly, it's the day I want to spend with friends and enjoy their company; however, they have full-time jobs and work on Fridays, so I'm on my own. Needless to say, Fridays are ME days.

Today, I spent my ME day visiting my mom and taking her to a movie. She just sent her last of four children off to college a few weeks ago, so I know that she enjoys my company. I'm sure it's a really hard adjustment that after over 20 years of having a full house, it's just her, my dad, and the dogs. But we enjoyed our movie and went to lunch at a restaurant close to the mall. After lunch, I let her in on my plan to find a graphic tee shirt with some classic 80s cartoon on it. I had planned on going roller skating with some friends later that evening for a blast from the past night. Success! I found a Rainbow Brite shirt and some crazy, hot-pink hoop earrings!

Skating was fun as well, but I must say...nothing quite makes you feel old until you are trying to keep your balance at the roller rink while 8-12 year olds are cutting you off doing fancy tricks all the while texting on their cell phones (which are far cooler than my current cell phone). What happened to the good ole days of roller skating to the music and playing crack the whip?
